LAID Late Burns Night feat The Banjo Lounge 4 + Finn LeMarinel + Burns Rap Battle
Wed 30 January, 9pm-3am, FREE Rabbie Burns had a way with the lassies and he loved to get LAID, so it seemed fitting that we celebrate the big man’s birthday again this year with music, booze, haggis ‘n’ dancing. Burns Rap Battle: Louie (Hector Bizerk) Vs Erin Friel A battle full o’ Rappie Burns as Louie of Hector Bizerk fame delivers the Toast to the Lassies, with a response from hip hop artiste Erin Friel performing her very own Toast to the Laddies. The Banjo Lounge 4  Could there be anything more appealing than banjo-clad covers of Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson and Beyonce? We don’t think so. The Banjo Lounge 4 are brilliant fun, performing their own mad bluegrass versions of pop classics – expect to hear all your old favourites off Now CDs and Top of the Pops, with a twangy twist. They were a roaring success at 2012’s Kelburn Garden Party Festival and they’re gonna cause a hoe-down in Bar Bloc. Finn LeMarinel The debut solo album Violence from the Trapped in Kansas frontman cause critics to go HOLY SHIT and audiences to go all silent with awe and wonder. Championed by Vic Galloway alongside many in the Glasgow hip-hop scene with whom he has collaborated, this is one talented boy and anyone who disagrees can eat oor Jimmy hats. DJ Doug Wilson will be keeping things movin and a shakin till 3am, a photographer will be snapping away all night PLUS Burns Night specials in Bloc: Haggis, Neeps and Tatties Calzone (AYE!) plus a Scottish beer for £8.95.

We’ve barely recovered from our Halloween Party (photos of which are here) but we’re back again this month on Wednesday 21st November, with a line up that’ll blow yer sneakers aff.HECTOR BIZERK This Glaswegian hip-hop duo have broken the mould with their drum-rap combo, and they’re gonna raise the roof at Bloc. Having played T in the Park in the summer and supported the likes of DOOM and GZA (Wu Tang Clan), the hype surrounding Louis (rap) and Audrey (drums) has served to push underground hip-hop onto e’erbody’s radar. And my, how e’erbody loves it. Drums. Rap. Yes.
SOLAREYE (Stanley Odd) Showcasing new material for the first time, Solareye is the highly entertaining frontman of Edinburgh’s Stanley Odd, and a true delight to watch. Prepare to be transfixed by his fast-paced rap abilities that are at once hilarious, thought-provoking, political and social. If we’re getting too deep here, his main interest is “Getting mad wi it”. BUTTERSCOTCH (The being MCs) A member of Scottish hip-hop collective The bEINg MCs along with the likes of Loki, Gasp, and the other folks on this bill, Butterscotch is also one of the best DJs we’ve ever come across. His impressive vinyl collection is not at all limited to hip-hop, as proven by his last visit to LAID when he had the club jumping till 3am. We can’t wait to have him back. As is customary at LAID, we’ll have a photographer there capturing all the action. Oh aye, and it’s FREE.

LAID feat The Darien Venture + Copper Lungs + Bellow Below - Wednesday 29th August at Bar Bloc - FREE
The Darien VentureAt school we learned about the disastrous Darien Venture when everyone tried to get rich but actually just got sick and died of diseases, and we felt sad. But four hundred or so years later, like a phoenix from the ashes, The Darien Venture has come good. The only ‘infectious’ thing about THIS venture are the melodies! Eh? To continue, the math-pop quartet frequently invoke crowd chant-a-longs which is exactly the kind of energy we like to fire up Bloc on a Wednesday night.
Copper Lungs“A breath of fresh air”. “They took my breath away”. And other lung puns. Apparently, if your lungs are infused with copper it enables you to sing songs that make people do a little dance. Copper Lungs were right at home supporting acts such as Errors and Remember Remember, because they are great. So take a deep breath (lololol) and come along for the ride.Bellow BelowThis alt-rock foursome from Ayr made our eyeballs bulge with squidgy delight when we caught em at the Overlook Records 1st Birthday Party earlier this year (wan o’ our favourite labels, in case you hadn’t noticed…). They’ve shared the stage with the awesome Tera Melos and they’ve just released a juuuuuicy teaser for their forthcoming EP ‘Hooks’, which looks to be banging. We’ll also have a DJ coaxing people into some taps aff dancing till 3am.Aw go on, get LAID already.

WAWWWW. Stanley Odd fucking KILLED IT on Wednesday night at LAID, with ample support from bEINg MC Gasp. It was amazing to host something a wee bit different and to see so many new faces in the club. We’ll definitely be bringing these guys back for MILK - especially since they mention us in one of their new songs! Pure mental. Anyway, here’s some live shots from the night by Catthouse - the rest are here - enjoy!
